In my experience, there a few conditions that are more devastating than a stroke. [1] The medical term for it is “cerebrovascular accident” (CVA).  Healthcare advocacy groups prefer to call it a “brain attack.” In this series of essays, we’ll talk about what a stroke is, how it happens, what to do after it has happened. Of course, I promise to explain how you can lower your risk of having one (or a second or third one).

I’m a family doctor. We spend a lot of time preventing stroke and helping patients recover from them. I also have a personal vendetta with it. I could never do a better job of education than the American Stroke Association. [2]  However, if I can help one more patient avoid a stroke for one more day, then this blog is worth it.
